As the largest of the AMYA model yacht classes, the S1M is represented in a great many R/C sailing club fleets - 59 at last count in the US and Canada. There are even clubs in the UK and Australia. There's likely to be one near you. Contact them, get out and sail with them. Most R/C yacht clubs have a spare boat or two around and will be happy to let you try one out. There's usually a regular weekly or monthly club schedule of racing and fun sailing. Club members often get together in the winter to build new boats or discuss the racing rules. Club membership dues are usually very reasonable and you'll meet a great bunch of people. Call your local club today and find out when they get together. The AMYA maintains a list of local clubs organized by state and region at: If you travel on business, or next time you take a vacation, check out the list and find a club in the area. It's a great way to relax after a long day of travel or business meetings. |
